learning rooted in nature

At Earth School Hawai‘i, learning happens with muddy hands, curious minds, and open hearts. Our programs blend academic foundations with real-life experiences like gardening, conservation, herbal studies, traditional skills, and community stewardship. Every child learns how to care for the Earth while discovering their own strengths and passions.

Curious About Earth School?

We welcome children ages 6–11 for our after-school programs and K–8 students for our full-time academic program. Once our future campus is complete, we’re excited to expand our offerings to include an early childhood program starting at 18 months.

Not at all! Many families join us from other parts of Kauai or while visiting the island. Several of our programs welcome drop-ins.

Absolutely. Earth School blends focused academic instruction with hands-on, place-based learning that inspires curiosity, confidence, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Our Approach:

Core Academics (Morning Block) –
Students spend two dedicated hours each morning building essential skills in math, reading, writing, and science through engaging, age-appropriate lessons.

Experiential Learning (Afternoon Block) –
Afternoons take learning outdoors with activities such as nature excursions, coral reef planting, gardening, sustainability projects, and environmental science exploration.

We structure our day around the Three Waves of Learning:
~ Proficiency Wave: Daily practice in math and literacy to build strong academic foundations.
~ Thematic Wave: Interdisciplinary, long-term explorations that connect academic skills with real-world themes.
~ Creative Expression Wave: Art, wellness, music, movement, and early entrepreneurship that support whole-child growth.

Why it works:

~ Small Class Sizes: Every child receives individualized attention and guided support.
~ Project-Based Learning: Students take ownership through real-world projects like beach cleanups, planting native species, and sustainability initiatives
~ Engaged, Holistic Growth: Academic rigor, creativity, environmental stewardship, and social-emotional skills grow together, helping children become confident, thoughtful problem-solvers.

Tuition varies depending on the program, number of days, and season. Because each family’s needs are different, we encourage you to reach out directly so we can share current rates and help you explore the best fit for your child. Our goal is always to provide clear, supportive guidance.

Do you offer scholarships or tuition assistance?
Yes! We are committed to making place-based, community-rooted education accessible. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that honors their whole self. We offer limited scholarships and tuition-support options, and we warmly encourage families to inquire. If you feel Earth School is the right fit for your child, please reach out so we can explore options together.

Academic Standards and Assessments

Standards-Aligned Core Academics

Our core literacy, math, and science instruction align with Hawaii State learning standards to ensure students gain the essential skills they need at each grade level.

Holistic & Ongoing Assessment

We use multiple forms of assessment, including teacher observations, work samples, reading and math benchmarks, and project-based demonstrations of learning. This approach offers a complete and authentic understanding of each child’s progress.

Transparent Communication With Families

Families receive ongoing updates through progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, and student portfolios, providing a clear picture of each child’s growth – academically, socially, and creatively.

Join Us in Growing the Next Generation of Earth Stewards

From full-time schooling to weekly classes, our programs empower children to think critically, explore their natural environment, and build lifelong skills that connect them to the earth. Whether your child loves plants, art, science, or simply being outdoors, there’s a place for them here.
